Pamlico County Opens Season with 3-1 Road Win Over Havelock

HAVELOCK — The Pamlico County Hurricanes wasted little time establishing themselves in the 2026 volleyball season, rolling past the Havelock Rams 3-1 on Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup.

Pamlico took the first two sets decisively, 25-13 and 25-19, before Havelock responded with a 25-22 win in the third. The Hurricanes closed it out in the fourth, 25-16, to improve to 1-0. Havelock dropped to 0-2.

Senior outside hitter Hayden Gibbs-Ireland powered the attack with a match-high 20 kills on 35 attempts and a .429 hitting percentage. Junior Bella-Ann Schulz added nine kills, sophomore Avery Hettinger contributed seven, and senior middle Sydney Whitley-Reese finished with five kills and a team-high six total blocks.

Senior setter Lila Mehring orchestrated the offense with 32 assists and also led the team with four service aces. Pamlico finished with 42 kills, 13 aces, 50 digs and 10 blocks as a team.

Emma Charles-Craft paced the Hurricanes’ defense with 11 digs. Schulz and Mehring added nine and eight digs, respectively.

The match marked the season opener for Pamlico County. Havelock was coming off a four-set loss to Jacksonville the night before.

Pamlico is scheduled to face Swansboro on Wednesday. Havelock’s next match is against West Craven.
