Jones Senior Volleyball Falls in Five-Set Thriller to Hobgood Charter

TRENTON, N.C. — The Jones Senior Trojans opened their 2026 volleyball season with a hard-fought battle Thursday night, pushing Hobgood Charter to the limit before falling 3-2 in a non-conference match in Hobgood.
The final set scores were 25-27, 25-13, 22-25, 25-22, 16-18. Jones Senior drops to 0-1 while Hobgood Charter improves to 1-2.
The Trojans showed flashes of strong play throughout the match, particularly in their serving and attacking. Sophomore outside hitter Skylar Anderson led the way with 11 kills on 44 attempts. Senior libero Harper Woolard was dominant from the service line, recording a team-high 7 aces and 17 service points. Junior Kynlee Whaley added 5 kills, while senior Alondra Hernandez Martinez contributed 4 kills with no errors.
Jones Senior finished with 26 kills, 16 aces, and just one total block as a team. The Trojans controlled the second set with a dominant 25-13 win and forced a fifth set by taking the fourth 25-22 after dropping a tight third set.
In the decisive fifth set, Hobgood Charter edged out a 18-16 victory to claim the match.
