New Bern Volleyball Stages Dramatic Comeback to Sweep Past Croatan in Five Sets

NEW BERN, N.C. — The New Bern Bears girls volleyball team dug deep and staged an impressive comeback Tuesday night, rallying from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Croatan 3-2 in a non-conference match at home.

Croatan took the first two sets 25-22 and 25-18, putting New Bern in an early hole. The Bears responded with urgency, winning the next three sets 25-23, 25-18 and 15-13 to secure the victory and improve to 4-0 on the season. 

Senior Peyton Finch was named Player of the Match and had 14 kills, 2 Aces, and 10 digs. 

Senior Louisa Reno had 14 kills. Junior middle hitter Charlotte Smith added 7 kills and hit .333, while junior Megan McGuire contributed 5 kills and a team-high 5 total blocks.

As a team, New Bern finished with 44 kills, 11 service aces, 9 total blocks, 102 digs and 44 assists.
