New Bern Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to New Hanover

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The New Bern Bears girls volleyball team battled through five sets but came up short in a 3-2 non-conference loss to New Hanover on Thursday night.

New Bern took the first set 25-18 and the fourth 25-20, but New Hanover responded by winning sets two (25-22), three (25-15) and five (15-10). The Bears fell to 4-1 on the season, while the Wildcats improved to 2-4.

Louisa Reno, Charlotte Smith and Megan McGuire each finished with 9 kills for New Bern. McGuire also added 3 total blocks and hit .304. Peyton Finch contributed 5 kills. Libero Allie Tuzo led the defense with 36 digs, while setter Mary Alice Evans recorded 37 assists and 20 digs. Haley Whitehead added 19 digs.
