Bennett’s Historic Night Powers Pamlico County Past KIPP Pride, 34-26

GASTON, N.C. — Sometimes a single performance can set the tone for an entire season. On Thursday night, junior Jacob Bennett delivered exactly that kind of statement.

Bennett rushed for an eye-popping 292 yards on just 14 carries and scored four touchdowns as the Pamlico County Hurricanes opened the 2026 season with a hard-fought 34-26 road win over KIPP Pride.

The numbers barely do the night justice. Averaging nearly 21 yards every time he touched the ball, Bennett repeatedly broke free for big gains, including a 93-yard burst. He also completed a 28-yard touchdown pass and added a two-point conversion, finishing with 26 of Pamlico’s 34 points.

The Hurricanes (1-0) jumped out to a 6-7 first-quarter deficit before taking control. They scored 14 points in the second quarter and never looked back, answering every Pride challenge. Senior Izir Benjamin added a receiving touchdown and an interception return, while the defense forced turnovers and limited big plays when it mattered most.

What stood out most was the resolve. Pamlico turned the ball over four times but kept fighting. Each time KIPP Pride closed the gap, Bennett and the Hurricanes answered. In the fourth quarter they punched in an eight-point response that sealed the victory.
