Havelock Rams With 49-7 Rout of Richlands

HAVELOCK — Michael Gatling ran for 164 yards and four touchdowns Friday night as Havelock opened Coastal 5A/6A play with a 49-7 win over Richlands at Havelock High School.

Gatling, the senior running back and defensive back, needed only 12 carries to pile up 164 yards and four scores. Sophomore quarterback Kaleb Montanye completed 7 of 14 passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Jeffrey Jones added 76 receiving yards and a touchdown on four catches.

Richlands (1-4, 0-1) managed a single score in the conference opener and fell to 1-4.

The result fit a recent pattern between the programs. Havelock beat Richlands 49-20 last September and 47-0 in the 2025 playoffs. Head coach Brent Wooten’s Rams have owned this matchup in recent years.

Havelock hosts unbeaten Croatan (5-0) next Friday, Sept. 25, in another Coastal 5A/6A game.  Richlands hosts 4-0 Northside-Jacksonville the same night
